What is Coco Bongo Punta Cana?
Coco Bongo Punta Cana is the biggest (and most probably best) evening and night show you can find in the entire east of the Dominican Republic and one of the best things to do in Punta Cana at night. It is a combination of show, music, disco, party and nightclub and probably the best performance you’ll see for a long while. What makes it unique is that it offers something for everyone: those who’d love to party, those who wanna see a spectacular show and those who just want to enjoy a night out with great entertainment. It doesn’t matter if you are 25 and looking for an unforgettable night with an open bar, if you’re 35 and just want to dance the night away or if you are 45 and want to enjoy some of the best show performances of the area, you’ll find it here at Coco Bongo Punta Cana. It is also a great idea for bachelor and bachelorette parties in the Dominican Republic.
Some of the characteristics this nightlife activity in Punta Cana includes are special show effects, a great party vibe, an international crowd incl. local Dominicans, disco sessions, great dance acts, the interpretation of shows or songs popular around the world (such as Game of Throne, Spiderman, Queen or Rolling Stones) and an ongoing disco party until 2 or 3 am (depending on the day of the week).
How to get tickets for Coco Bongo Punta Cana?
As you can see, Coco Bongo Punta Cana offers a lot of fun for everyone, but to fully enjoy the show it is important to book the right Coco Bongo ticket. Let’s have a look at what those tickets include and which option is the best for every type of traveler.
Please note that all of the Coco Bongo tickets include pick-up and return transfer from and to your all-inclusive resort in Punta Cana – but ONLY if you book the ticket in advance. Obviously, if you book your Coco Bongo Punta Cana ticket just at the door for the same night, you won’t have transfers included (as you’re already there 😉 ).
Transfers are included with all the Coco Bongo ticket options – check them out here* and read further details below in our Coco Bongo Punta Cana review.
Another advantage of booking your Coco Bongo Punta Cana tickets in advance is that you all the time and no pressure to decide for the right option. There are salespeople of Coco Bongo at some resorts in Punta Cana where you can easily buy your tickets but obviously, they’re interested in selling as much as possible to you to earn more commission.
If you’re staying in a guesthouse in an Airbnb in Punta Cana please enquire with your vendor about the closest pick-up point. There is one in Corales at BAM Market for example, accessible from many Airbnbs in the area, and also other areas have a recommended pick-up location. There are no individual villa pick-ups possible.
When picking your Coco Bongo ticket, it is important to understand that the show respectively the club consists of 3 floors (physical floors, not dance floors). While the best crowd and most active party is on the lower floor, you have some more privacy and better views from the upper floors.
The regular Coco Bongo Punta Cana ticket
The regular ticket (check prices here*) is the most common ticket for Coco Bongo Punta Cana. It includes access to the show, after-disco, an open bar (national drinks; no brand liquors or premium drinks), 1 snack, a random space on the lower floor and return transfers from and to your all-inclusive resort in Punta Cana.
The regular ticket is for all those who want the best value for money and who like to focus on the party. This is the most crowded area, hence here you can find the best party vibe at Coco Bongo Punta Cana. Waiters with drinks will pass regularly, you have a good view of the stage and you’re part of all the special effects (which is similar with the other tickets as well). Just note that you have to stand the entire time – which isn’t an issue if you want to dance the night away anyway.
Our experience at Coco Bongo Punta Cana with the regular entrance tickets was absolutely fine.
The Drink Pack ticket
If you want to save even a bit more, you can also buy the Drink Pack option (check prices here*). This is usually around 15 USD cheaper than the regular Coco Bongo Punta Cana ticket, even though it includes the same services. The only exception is that instead of an open bar, just 5 drinks are included, hence it is the perfect option if you don’t want to drink that much anyway. However, please note, that as of September 2023, the Drink Pack option at Punta Cana’s Coco Bongo is only available on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, sometimes on Thursdays as well.
The Gold Member ticket
The Gold Member ticket (check prices here*) of Coco Bongo Punta Cana has three main advantages:
- they are located on the upper floor, hence you have a bit more free space for you and views of the crowd from above
- you don’t have to stand the entire time (even though seats (= bar chairs) are not guaranteed)
- you can enjoy an extended Coco Bongo drink menu with premium alcohol (international brands, for example, Brugal rum, Jarana tequila, Beefeater gin, Stolichnaya vodka, Dewar’s White or Frontera wine)
Therefore, the Gold ticket is particularly suitable if you are wishing for more personalized service and a premium experience instead of just standing and dancing in the crowd. The Gold member ticket is also better if you’d prefer to watch the show and the people a bit more instead of being amidst the big crowd.
Besides the premium drinks (open bar) and the dedicated area for watching the show and enjoying the party, you have the same services included as with the regular ticket.
The Front Row ticket
The front row ticket (check prices here*) is an actual upgrade of the Gold member Coco Bongo Punta Cana ticket. You get the same services as for the package mentioned before plus a preferential seating area on the upper floor with the best view of the show stage.
Bottle service ticket
In case you’d like to pay per consumption, you can also order a particular bottle service ticket. Those are not available online and are best booked with the hotline of Coco Bongo. They are just 30 USD per person but come with a minimum consumption of 1 bottle per maximum of 4 persons. Bottles are starting at around 130-150 USD, hence depending on how many persons are in your party, this might be cheaper or more expensive than the regular ticket. Furthermore, you don’t have the open bar included with this special ticket, hence once your bottle is over, you need to buy a new one. On the other side, you get a seperate area and dedicated waiter service. You can find more information about the bottle service further below in this Coco Bongo review.
The Coco Bongo show – all the details you need to know
But what to expect when visiting Coco Bongo Punta Cana?
First, you’re getting picked up from your Punta Cana resort (if staying in Bayahibe or elsewhere, you can get your tickets here*) with a Coco Bongo shuttle. If you’re staying elsewhere, like La Romana, Juan Dolio, Boca Chica, Miches or Santo Domingo, you can find additional information further below in our Coco Bongo Punta Cana review.
Usually, at least in the Punta Cana area, the pick-up is between 06:15 pm and 07:40 pm, but this can vary according to your hotel. Please check your booking confirmation. You’ll get transferred straight to the main plaza of Downtown Punta Cana, where Coco Bongo is located.
Here you’ll usually have a couple of minutes to spend, take photos (there are several nice photo spots at night) and get in line. Don’t be shocked, the line might be pretty long but once the doors are opening at 8 pm, it goes super quickly and smoothly. If you’d like to be the first in the line, you need to buy the Gold Member ticket* or the Front Row ticket*.
Once in, you’ll have a quick security check and get introduced to the big three-tiered venue. If you have booked the regular ticket or the drink pack ticket, you’ll get directed into the right area and can look where you feel comfortable. If you have booked the gold or the front row ticket, you’ll get guided to your table/area by your waiter.
Once the majority has settled in, usually around 9 pm, the Coco Bongo show is starting. You’ll already have music and a DJ before, but now it is when the actual show is beginning. What is awaiting you now is the unique combination which was already partly mentioned above: different show acts, great entertainment, a lot of partying, music from all different genres, a lot of special effects, interactive elements (balloons, kiss cam, center stage and much more) and first-class audiovisuals. Most of the acts and elements are just 10 to 15 minutes long before followed by the next one. Like this, it never gets boring, you are always so excited to know what comes next.
This lasts for at least 3 hours or so (usually until around midnight)! Sequence after sequence, there is always something new and exciting coming up. Besides the great party vibes (it is definitely a big crowd!), there are also moments where you’ll laugh and other moments where you just admire the great performance of the artists. Those 3 hours will fly by and it is the best and most thrilling evening entertainment you’ll find in Punta Cana and the Dominican Republic. The experience definitely never gets boring – and I am saying this even though we have already visited Coco Bongo Punta Cana three times.
Once the show is finished, it doesn’t mean that your night at Coco Bongo Punta Cana is finished as well. Instead, you can continue to party in a big open party with a massive crowd, as the DJ is playing international favorites. The party continues until 2 am or (Fridays and Saturdays) until 3 am. However, the buses bringing you back home to your all-inclusive resort at leaving around 1:30 am, hence you need to decide at this time if you’ll take the transfer or stay longer and pay an additional taxi or Uber in Punta Cana.
Drinks and Food at Coco Bongo Punta Cana
We were positively surprised by the waiters. Even though the number of people was really huge at Punta Cana’s Coco Bongo and there was hardly any space for walking through the crowd, they very often passed by and delivered drinks. Alternatively, you can also head to the bar on your own and get your drinks there. Surprisingly, there was hardly any line as everyone was following the show. Just note that with the regular tickets (and the drink pack ticket at Coco Bongo Punta Cana), you only have national drinks included. They use no-name brands, hence don’t expect any spectacular drinks if you don’t book the Gold Member tickets. However, you won’t have a problem getting drunk if this is your goal for the night. 😉
If you have a Gold Member or Front Row ticket for Coco Bongo Punta Cana, you can enjoy premium drinks and are getting served some of the most popular international liquor brands.
There is also the option to order drinks with the premium bottle service, which is, however, not included in any Coco Bongo Punta Cana ticket. In this case, you can order your bottles à-la-carte and pay per consumption, starting from around 130-150 USD per regular 700ml bottle.
If you want to only consume by the bottle, there is also a special ticket you can take advantage of. It only costs 30 USD per person, but there is a minimum consumption of at least 1 bottle per 4 persons. Ice, mixers and waiter service are included. It also includes a dedicated area in one of the lower areas of the Coco Bongo venue. However, this ticket is not available online, only through the hotline of Coco Bongo or with the Coco Bongo representatives in some of the all-inclusive resorts in Punta Cana.
There is also a snack included in all the tickets. Usually, you can choose between different options such as mini hamburgers, chicken fingers or a sandwich. You’ll get a ticket with your entrance and give the ticket to your waiter once you want to have the snacks.
Besides the snack, there is no meal service available at Coco Bongo Punta Cana. However, there are food options available outside, such as Subway or Hard Rock Café.
Our experiences at Punta Cana’s Coco Bongo
I think you already get a good overview of what to expect when visiting one of the best things to do in Punta Cana at night, Coco Bongo in Punta Cana. However, in this Coco Bongo review, I want to share a few more of our experiences we had when visiting this unique nightlife show in Punta Cana. And indeed it is spectacular. In my opinion, it is one of the best entertainment and party options you can have in Punta Cana, besides the amazing RIU pool parties.
If you are looking for a club that is really full of people, Coco Bongo is your place to go. I knew it was popular but didn’t remember that it gets that full. As we all know, a party usually is only outstanding if there is a good crowd, nobody wants to dance in an empty venue. Therefore, Coco Bongo Punta Cana does a great job and gathers a large number of party people.
Some of the show and dance acts are interpreting older bands, movies or musicals which is a great add-on for those of you who are music enthusiasts and movie lovers. Some of them include Game of Throne, Spiderman, Mad Max, Sparta, La Mascara, Beetle Juice, Queen, Rolling Stones or Kiss.
I really loved all those special effects at Coco Bongo, which made the whole night very amusing and entertaining. They repeatedly blasted a lot of fog into the crowd, had large balloons for a public choreography, brought some of the audience on the stage, used a camera to display peoples’ moments on the large screens or threw a lot of confetti into the arena. That’s also why Coco Bongo in Punta Cana is so different from a typical nightclub. You are not just dancing and waiting for the next song the DJ is playing, instead, you always have a surprise waiting!
A personal insider tip for your visit: if you want to get a more local approach of the nightlife in Punta Cana, you can – instead of enjoying the DJ inside Coco Bongo – leave the indoor venue after the show is finished (as you still have around 1-2 hours until the busses are leaving) and head to the attached Congo Bar Punta Cana. It is kind of an outdoor bar that belongs to Coco Bongo Punta Cana, but Congo Bar is publicly accessible without a cover and therefore also popular among many locals, especially at the weekends. However, please note that drinks are not included here and you can’t take your drinks from inside Coco Bongo to Congo Bar.
Visiting Coco Bongo from Bayahibe, La Romana, Juan Dolio and Boca Chica
Are you staying in an all-inclusive resort in Bayahibe or anywhere else along the south coast between Punta Cana and Santo Domingo, particularly in La Romana, Juan Dolio or Boca Chica? Good news, you can visit Coco Bongo as well.
If you are staying in one of the areas mentioned, everything is the same as described above. The only difference is that the transfer time is a bit longer, hence your pick-up is earlier. When staying in Bayahibe, the pick-up is around 5:45 pm to 7 pm, and if staying in La Romana, Juan Dolio or Boca Chica, pick-up is between 4:30 pm and 6 pm.
In this case, as you won’t have any dinner at your accommodation, I’d recommend taking some extra cash (or working credit cards) to get food at some of the fast-food places located right next to Coco Bongo, such as Subway.
A Coco Bongo Punta Cana visit is also possible from Miches, the new destination in the north of Punta Cana. However, currently, there is no online booking possible and no scheduled transfers are running between Miches resorts’ (Temptation, Club Med, Dreams + Secrets Playa Esmeralda) and Coco Bongo Dominican Republic. You can try to book in on the spot, even though you most likely have to pay for a private transfer. However, with the growing hotel business in Miches, I am sure scheduled departures to Coco Bongo will be available throughout 2024 or at the latest 2025.
Alternatives to Coco Bongo Punta Cana
In case Coco Bongo doesn’t convince you, there are other options for a great party in Punta Cana. Here are a couple of Coco Bongo Punta Cana alternatives we can recommend:
Imagine:
Imagine is another nightclub in Punta Cana with a good balance between tourists and locals, even though the focus here is more on the music and the club vibe than on the show and the entertainment as at Coco Bongo. What makes Imagine Punta Cana unique is that it is located in a cave, guaranteeing a very special atmosphere. Just note, that Imagine Cave currently is only open on Saturdays.
RIU Party:
Coco Bongo Punta Cana is without a doubt the best public party you can find in Punta Cana, but if you’re looking for something specific within the resorts, check out the Riu Party events. Those are the most massive pool parties in Punta Cana and it is guaranteed that you’ll have a blast here. However, Riu Party is only accessible if you stay at one of the Riu Resorts in Punta Cana (check the reviews of Riu Palace Punta Cana, Riu República or Riu Palace Macao) for more information.
Punta Cana Party Bus:
If you want to head out to a party but don’t want to do so without other fellow travelers, you can get a spot on the Punta Cana Party Bus. It runs from Wednesday to Saturday and includes an open bar, live DJ, professional entertainer, waiter service onboard + access to two clubs with 1 drink at each location. (details and inclusions of the tour are subject to change, please check the offer page*)
Punta Cana Bar Crawl:
This is a low-key bar crawl in the Corales Area, a part particularly known for its bars and restaurants. You head to four different bars with different settings + Hard Rock Café Punta Cana before, hence you get a good overview of the more laid-back nightlife in Punta Cana. A guide will accompany you throughout the evening. This option is great for socializing instead of hardcore partying. (details and inclusions of the tour are subject to change, please check the offer page*)
Local Nightlife Places:
Of course, you can also head out to Punta Cana’s nightlife on your own – there is a lot to discover (if you know what you’re doing). Check out the extensive Punta Cana nightlife guide for options and locations.
Coco Bongo Punta Cana vs. Coco Bongo Cancun and Playa del Carmen
Coco Bongo is not only present in the Dominican Republic but also in Mexico, specifically in Playa del Carmen and Cancun. If you have been there, you know what to expect at Coco Bongo Punta Cana. The surroundings, the quality of the show and the amenities are similar when comparing Coco Bongo Punta Cana and Coco Bongo Cancun + Playa del Carmen, even though the show is different.
Furthermore, the most important differences between the locations of Coco Bongo Dominican Republic and those in Mexico are the prices: Punta Cana is the cheapest among all of them. Furthermore, Coco Bongo Cancun doesn’t offer transfers.
Summary – is it worth visiting Coco Bongo in Punta Cana?
The important thing to understand about Coco Bongo Punta Cana is that it is much more than just a disco, a show or a nightclub. It is a combination of all of it and therefore offers the best nightlife entertainment you can find in Punta Cana. Thanks to this unique diversity, it is suitable for everyone who is looking for a great night out. And even when the show is finished, you still can continue partying club-style when it’s the DJ’s turn.
Is it worth to visit Coco Bongo Punta Cana? In my opinion, it is.
If you are loving shows, want to dance and/or would like to have a real party and show, Coco Bongo is something none of the all-inclusive resorts in Punta Cana can offer you (with a slight exception of the RIU Resort properties, which feature a great RIU party area with multiple packed parties a week – even though it is not comparable with Coco Bongo). I know that many travelers are visiting Punta Cana and the Dominican Republic for the nightlife and to have some fun – you definitely find this at Punta Cana’s Coco Bongo. And it is super safe!
Even though the tickets are not cheap, I’d say you pay at least 50%-100% more for a comparable event in the United States or Canada – and probably won’t have such an animated and relaxed crowd as here in Punta Cana where everyone is on vacation. Furthermore, if you’re often traveling to Mexico you can also seize the chance and visit Coco Bongo Punta Cana, as tickets here are cheaper compared to Coco Bongo Cancún or Coco Bongo Playa del Carmen.
On the other side, if you have a limited budget and are not sure if you shall spend it on a day-time excursion in Punta Cana or at Coco Bongo, I would rather go with a guided excursion so you can get a few impressions of the Dominican Republic instead of just visiting a Punta Cana nightlife show.
However, if you are looking for a fun night out and don’t want to visit shady local nightclubs in Punta Cana, Coco Bongo is your No. 1 pick – you most likely won’t regret it.
